Antibodies to SS-A are associated with various Connective Tissue Diseases. The most common occurrence is in patients with Sjogren's syndrome (up to 96% of cases) for which it is considered as a classification criterion. It also reported in SLE, Subacute cutaneous Lupus and other CTDs. Apart from this antibodies to SS-A can be found in practically 100% of cases of Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus. They are transmitted diaplacentally to the foetus and cause an inflammatoryreaction.
